Arthy Ahmed is an internationally acclaimed Bangladeshi Bharatanatyam dancer, educator, and cultural leader, widely recognized for her commitment to ethical art practices and inclusive dance education. She holds a BA Honours and a Master's degree in Bharatanatyam from India, having received an Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarship. Additionally, she earned a specialized Diploma in Dance Psychology from Madras University, Chennai, India, focusing on teacher's training in dance education. Upon returning to Bangladesh, Arthy Ahmed shifted her focus towards dance education and community building, pioneering adult beginner Bharatanatyam classes globally. This initiative, which began during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic with 25 students, has since grown into a thriving community of over 600 to 700 students, ranging from ages 3 to 70. Her academy, the Arthy Ahmed Dance Academy in Dhaka, is renowned for its inclusive, non-judgmental environment, where dance is accessible to all, fostering emotional healing and self-discovery. Ahmed is also the initiator of the #danceyourage movement, advocating for age-appropriate choreography and healthy artistic practices for children. She uses Indian classical dance as a powerful tool to address contemporary social issues such as sexism, misogyny, and the loss of cultural heritage through her community productions. Notable productions include "Sakhi" (2023), featuring 90 women dancers, "Ghonoghota" (2025), a monsoon-themed production drawing on Rabindranath Tagore's works, and "Navapallava 2" (2025). Her work has been recognized with significant accolades, including the Ekushey Padak in 2026, Bangladesh's second-highest civilian award, and the Top Outstanding Young Person of Bangladesh award in 2025. She has proudly represented Bangladesh on numerous international platforms, contributing significantly to the global dance community.
