Meaning

Rama is the seventh avatar of Vishnu and the hero of the Ramayana — son of Dasharatha, husband of Sita, exiled to the forest, whose search for his abducted wife brings him to war with Ravana. Lyrics call him Raghava or Raghu-kula Rama after his clan, and much of the Bharatanatyam repertoire draws on episodes from his life: breaking Shiva's bow to win Sita, protecting the sages' sacrifice, crossing the river, the devotion of Hanuman.
