Acharya Smt. Swapna R Shankar is a Bharatanatyam artist, teacher, and the founder of Rasaamrita, a Bharatanatyam institution based in Sydney, Australia. Her dance journey began at the age of eight in Chennai, where she was initially trained in the Kalakshetra tradition under Guru Smt. Pushpa Kumaresan. She later received guidance from Guru Smt. Mahalakshmi Ashwin, a disciple of Paramaguru Smt. Krishnaveni Lakshmanan of Kalakshetra. Currently based in Sydney, Australia, Acharya Smt. Swapna R Shankar leads Rasaamrita, an academy rooted in the rigorous Kalakshetra bani. The institution operates in Sydney's northwest, specifically in Castle Hill and Baulkham Hills, and focuses on nurturing students not only as dancers but also as individuals who embody grace, discipline, and expression. She also contributes to artistry at TAPAS Academy Australia, striving to perpetuate the cherished Guru-Shishya lineage. Beyond her contributions to classical dance, Swapna R Shankar is also a Senior Project Manager with over 15 years of experience in technology and design, and in 2024, she launched her tech startup, Rudram Labs. She is also a certified yoga teacher and integrates yoga practices into her dance training to enhance students' strength and flexibility, which are essential for Bharatanatyam.
