🪔 About

Alexandra Romanova is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, primarily known for her contributions to Bharatanatyam. Her journey in dance began with ballet training at the National School of Ballet in Warsaw. She further pursued Indology at Warsaw University, which led her to a scholarship to learn Bharatanatyam in India. Romanova underwent extensive training under legendary gurus, spending years with Yamini Krishnamurti in New Delhi. She also benefited from private courses with Ranganayaki Jayaraman and P.T. Narendran in Madras. Her professional career commenced with a traditional arangetram (debut) in New Delhi. Throughout her career, Romanova has performed at various prestigious festivals across India, including “East-West Encounter,” “Kal-ke-Kalakar,” and the All India Festival – “Apna Utsav.” She has also performed for Indian television in New Delhi and Srinagar. In the 1990s, Alexandra Romanova pioneered her own distinctive style, which seamlessly integrates Bharatanatyam and ballet techniques. She has since been actively involved in producing, choreographing, and presenting diverse dance projects, performing on both stage and German television. Her collaborations include touring with renowned Indian dancers such as Anita Ratnam and P.T. Narendran, and working with musicians like Rikhy Ray, Freddie Santiago, Sivamani, and V. Selvaganesh. Currently, Romanova presents “Operngesang und Tempeltanz,” a project that illustrates classical European music through the technique of Indian classical dance, alongside opera singer Katherine Niemiec and pianist Clara Luisa Demar. She is based in Heidelberg, Germany, where she also leads the Bharatanatyam in Heidelberg Dance School. Awards & Honours: Singarmani (1983).
