Moozhikkulam Kochukuttan Chakyar (1928–2009), also known as Ammannur Kochukuttan Chakyar, was a distinguished exponent of Koodiyattam, a traditional Sanskrit theatre form from Kerala, India. Born in 1928 into the Ammannur Chakyar family in Ammannur, a hamlet near Irinjalakuda in Thrissur district, he received his initial training in Koodiyattam within his family. He further honed his skills under eminent gurus including Kidangoor Narayana Chakyar, Painkulam Rama Chakyar, Irinjalakkuda Madhava Chakyar, and the legendary Mani Madhava Chakyar. He also pursued studies in Sanskrit under Kallankara Narayana Pisharody and Kodasseri Kochunni Kartha. Chakyar specialized in portraying the Vidushaka (clown) in Koodiyattam and was renowned for his oral renditions of Prabhandha Koothu (Purushaarthhams). Alongside his cousin, Ammannur Madhava Chakyar, he played a pivotal role in developing the distinctive Ammannur tradition of Koodiyattam, mastering not only this style but also the Perinchallur, Cheria Parisha, and Koyappa traditions. His significant contributions extended to teaching, where he became the first residential guru at Margi, an institution dedicated to promoting Kerala's traditional art forms, when its Koodiyattam training centre was established in 1981. Later, in 1998, he served as the Mukhya Acharya (Head Teacher) at Nepathya, a centre for excellence in Koodiyattam, continuing his association until his demise. Recognized for his profound impact on Koodiyattam, Moozhikkulam Kochukuttan Chakyar was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, in 2008. He also received the Kerala Kalamandalam Award, Natyanikasha Puraskaram, and the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award. His legacy is preserved through an annual festival, the Guru Moozhikkulam Kochukuttan Chakyar Memorial Kutiyttam Festival.
