🪔 About
Amrit Phull is a Kathak dancer, performer, and instructor based in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. She began her study of Kathak in 1996 under the tutelage of Joanna de Souza. Phull is a performer and instructor with the Chhandam Dance Company at M-Do Kathak Toronto. She has toured India as part of the Chhandam Dance Company for "Bardo," a contemporary Kathak production. Phull is known for her appreciation of the mathematical, rhythmic complexity and lyrical movement inherent in the Kathak tradition. She actively performs solo and group choreographies, exploring themes of energy, rhythm, and connection through traditional Kathak compositions, including intricate gintis (numeric patterns) and expressive abhinaya (gestures). Beyond her dance career, Amrit Phull is also an architect, educator, and editor, serving as a principal of Forest Studio and a Sessional Lecturer at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture. She commenced teaching adult beginner Kathak classes in September 2022 and has contributed to student showcases at Kathak Toronto.
