Amrit Stein is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, primarily Kathak, and a senior Iyengar Yoga instructor based in Munich, Germany. Her extensive training in Kathak began in 1980 under the tutelage of prominent masters Rohini Bhate and Kumudini Lakhia in India, where she completed traditional dance studies. She also received instruction in solo performance from Dr. Malabika Mitra and in choreography from Kumudini Lakhia. Prior to her Kathak journey, Stein had a background in ballet and modern dance from childhood. She holds a degree in Education from the University of Hanover, Germany. As a Kathak performer, Amrit Stein has graced numerous prestigious stages across India, including the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai, the historic Kathak Festival in Lucknow, the Habitat World Center in Delhi, the Vikram Sarabhai Festival (Natarani) in Ahmedabad, and the Max Müller Bhavan in Pune. Notably, she performed for Maharana Arvind Singh Mewar at the City Palace in Udaipur and at the Natyanjali Festival in the Chidambaram Shiva Temple, a performance broadcast by Doordarshan, India's national television channel. Her performances are recognized for their flawless technique (Nritta), expressive portrayal (Abhinaya), and charismatic stage presence. Beyond dance, Amrit Stein is a direct disciple of the late Hatha Yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar and a senior certified Iyengar Yoga instructor. She began teaching Iyengar's courses in Japan after completing her dance studies in India and has been teaching in Munich since the 1990s. Since 1999, she has led the Iyengar Yoga Institut München, also known as the PRANA Iyengar Yoga Institute, where she serves as co-director. She is also an author, having penned the Kathak book "The Way of Kathak Dance," and has released several music CDs, including devotional songs, mantras, and an instructional CD on "Yoga & Voice Training." Her album "Klangjuwelen der Großen Freude" was nominated at the Tibetan Music Awards in 2007. Since 1990, she has dedicated herself to the practice of Vajrayana Buddhism.
