Amutha Dhandapani is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, particularly Bharatanatyam, known for her dedication to the traditional Pandanallur style. Her journey in Bharatanatyam commenced under the tutelage of Smt. Vijayalakshmi Shanmugam Pillai, and she later had the invaluable opportunity to train with Kalaimamani Sri. Thanjai Arunachalam Pillai. She further solidified her expertise by earning the Diploma "Aadal Kalaimani" from the Tamil Nadu Government Music College. In 1986, Amutha Dhandapani founded "Bharathalayam," a prominent dance institution in Coimbatore, which has since grown to include a branch in Saibaba Colony established in 2005. As the founder and director, she has been instrumental in imparting the art of Bharatanatyam to hundreds of students over more than 36 years, with her students performing in numerous programs both within India and internationally. Dhandapani is also a prolific choreographer, having created many dance ballets. Her commitment to the purity and tradition of Bharatanatyam extends to training students in Nattuvangam, emphasizing its inseparable role in the dance form. Her daughter, Mathula Kishorekumar, is also a Bharatanatyam dancer and serves as the artistic director of Bharathalayam, continuing her mother's legacy.
