Anindita Nanda is a distinguished Indian classical dance figure, celebrated as a danseuse par excellence, classical vocalist, choreographer, teacher, and scholar in the Odissi tradition. She is an accomplished artist of the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra gharana of dancing, a lineage known for its profound artistic depth and technical mastery. Nanda holds a Masters in Indian (Odissi style) Classical Dance from Chandigarh University and a Bachelors in Hindustani Classical Vocal from ABGMM, Mumbai, India. Her dance is characterized by an exquisite blend of sensuous movement, graceful stances, strong defined footwork, and absolute control of rhythm and space. With a career spanning over two decades, Anindita Nanda has been actively learning, performing, and teaching Odissi classical dance, as well as Hindustani Vocal, semi-classical, folk, and contemporary dances, both in India and, currently, in the USA. She is the founder and director of Soortaal (also spelled SoorTaal), a creative venture and school dedicated to teaching and propagating Odissi Classical dance and Hindustani Classical Vocal to aspiring artists. Through Soortaal, she has established a platform for the promotion and preservation of Indian classical arts. Nanda is also a visiting professor of Dance at a performing arts school in La Plata, Argentina, and runs a school in Nevada, USA. She has actively contributed to the cultural scene in the US, promoting and preserving traditional and non-traditional art forms from South Asia. She is also a scientist in the pharmaceutical field.
