Pandit Anuj Mishra is a celebrated Kathak guru, dancer, and choreographer, representing the 13th generation of artists from a traditional musical family rooted in Varanasi, India. His lineage includes his forefather, Late Shri Shiv Kishore Mishra, a renowned Sarangi player; his grandfather, Late Shri Nanhu Mishra, a famous tabla maestro; and his father, the late Pandit Arjun Mishra, a distinguished Kathak guru and choreographer. Anuj Mishra began his Kathak training at a young age under the tutelage of his father, rising early to practice foot exercises. He further honed his skills under Late Kathak dancer Ramnarayan Mishra in Kolkata and subsequently under the legendary Pandit Birju Maharaj in Delhi, mastering the pure Lucknow gharana of Kathak. Beyond dance, he also received training in tabla from Pt. Ravinath Mishra and vocal music from Ustad Gulshan Bharati. Mishra holds a Master's degree in Kathak from Khairagarh University, Madhya Pradesh, and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in the dance form. His career as a performer and teacher has taken him across India and internationally, with performances at major festivals such as Sawai Gandharva, Lucknow Mohatsava, Taj Mohatsava, Kathak Mahotsava, Konark Dance Festival, and Kalaghoda Festival. He has graced stages in numerous countries including France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Belgium, Norway, England, Canada, Israel, Lebanon, Martinique, and Guadalupe. Anuj Mishra is known for his dazzling technique, including his ability to perform 103 chakras (spins) in one go, a feat he often showcases in his performances. He has collaborated with renowned choreographers such as Karine Saporta, Mallika Sarabhai, Kumudini Lakhia, Rukmini Chatterjee, and Lata Pada. He is the Artistic Director of Kathak Academy and President of the Anuj Arjun Mishra Dance Company (AMC), nurturing young talent and preserving the legacy of Kathak.
