🪔 About
Anuradha Venkataraman is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and choreographer, known for her profound engagement with the art form for over three decades. She received her extensive training in the Bharatanatyam style, specifically rooted in the Pandanallur tradition, under the tutelage of the esteemed Padmabhushan Dr. Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan for more than two decades. Her career as a performer spans over 15 years, during which she has garnered significant national and international acclaim. Anuradha is an 'A' graded artiste of Doordarshan and is empanelled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), facilitating her extensive performances across India and in countries such as Malaysia, South Korea, USA, Bosnia, Poland, Denmark, Germany, and Luxembourg. She has also served as a visiting faculty of Dance at the Korea National University of Arts in Seoul. Beyond traditional performances, Anuradha actively engages with SPIC Macay, conducting workshops and demonstrations nationwide. A Bangalore-based artist, Anuradha Venkataraman is also an accomplished actor, having been involved in theatre for nearly five years and performing in ten professional plays. She has choreographed and presented four solo productions, including "Pratham Parth," "Jananyey Namah- An Ode to Motherhood," "Vaidehi- The Story of Sita and Ravana," and "Stories Unearthed," the latter two supported by grants. Her recent work, "Bound by Soil," showcases a deliberate departure from traditional Bharatanatyam, using dance to explore social injustice and evoke emotional responses. As a dedicated educator, Anuradha founded the Ahum Trust in Bangalore in 2015, which operates the Swastika School of Dance & Music. Through this institution, she conducts Bharatanatyam classes in North Bangalore and has been instrumental in shaping hundreds of dancers. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes art as a practice for holistic human development rather than solely performance-oriented training, offering structured instruction in Bharatanatyam, Carnatic vocal, art, and yoga.
