Anusha Lall is a prominent figure in contemporary Indian dance, known for her role as the founder and director of the Gati Dance Forum in New Delhi. Her journey in dance began with traditional Bharatanatyam, from which she later gravitated towards contemporary dance. Lall established Gati Dance Forum as a platform for the "questioning and exploration" of the established canon of Indian dance, aiming to create a space for different dancers to collaborate and engage in dialogue. The forum is described as a cooperative of choreographers and an "R&D facility for dance in India," engineering interactions between traditional and modern, Eastern and Western dance forms. Lall expressed an intellectual draw to the principles and possibilities of choreography, despite finding the physicality of contemporary dance challenging.
