Aruna Chandra is a dedicated exponent and teacher of Kuchipudi, an Indian classical dance form, and South Indian Carnatic music. Her foundational training in Kuchipudi began at the age of three in Kurnool, India, where she studied for thirteen years under the tutelage of gurus Sri. Govindarajulu and Sri. UmaShankar. During her youth and teenage years, she actively participated in numerous performances. To further refine her artistic skills, Aruna Chandra continued her advanced training under the esteemed guidance of "Natya Kala Ratna" Sri Pasumarthy Venkateswara Sarma and Smt. Sobha Tammana. Currently, Aruna Chandra serves as the artistic director of the Prerna Academy of Performing Arts, an institution she leads in the United States. She imparts her knowledge of Kuchipudi dance and Carnatic music to students in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, and Schaumburg, Illinois. As of July 2010, she had already been teaching for over ten years, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to passing on the rich traditions of Indian classical arts to younger generations. The academy regularly organizes events, such as the Prerna Dance School Fall Showcase, to highlight the talents of its students.
