Bhavya Balasubramanian is an Indian classical dancer proficient in Bharatanatyam and Bharatanrityam. She received her foundational training under esteemed gurus, including Vazhuvoor R. Samraj and dancer-teacher Srekala Bharath. She also had the opportunity to work with S. Srilatha of Kalakshetra. Furthering her academic pursuits in dance, Balasubramanian earned an MFA from Sastra University. She delved deeper into Bharatanrityam and completed the Nritya Sali course of 108 Karanas under the tutelage of senior dancer Padma Subrahmanyam, who served as her mentor for seven years as of 2019. Balasubramanian has expressed a strong will to learn the Marga technique, influenced by temple visits and explanations of sculptures by Padma Subrahmanyam. By profession, Bhavya Balasubramanian is a chartered accountant, pursuing dance out of passion. Her performances are characterized by graceful footwork and expressive bhava. In 2011, she presented a Bharatanatyam recital that focused on the narrative of Lord Rama, using Swati Tirunal's Sanskrit kriti 'Bhavayami Raghuramam'. Her portrayal of Rama's reaction upon receiving Sita's choodamani ornament was particularly noted for its depth and ability to convey intense longing. In 2019, she performed a Bharatanrityam presentation at the Music Academy's mid-year dance festival in Chennai. This performance featured a Vazhuvoor Thodayam invocation, a Ganesha Kavuthuvam, and an appealing Jatiswaram in Ragamalika, composed and choreographed by Padma Subrahmanyam. Her repertoire also included a Khambodi varnam, Appar's Thevaram, and a Thillana, all executed with intricate footwork and inherent grace.
