Bhushan Lakandri is a distinguished Indian choreographer and dancer, born on December 14, 1958, in Kolkata, West Bengal. With over four decades of expertise, he is recognized for his significant contributions to Indian classical dance and contemporary dance, as well as his extensive work in film and television choreography. Lakandri received his foundational training at the Shri Ram Bhartiya Kala Kendra. His diverse classical dance education includes learning folk dance ensemble under Late Smt. Zohra Sehgal, Mayurbhanj Chhau from Krishnachandra Naik, Odissi from Mayadhar Raut, Kathak from Durgalal and Birju Maharaj, and creative dance from Narendra Sharma. Throughout his illustrious career, Lakandri has choreographed numerous prestigious stage presentations and dance ballets, such as "Divine Radha," "Ganga: A Dance Ballet" (featuring Hema Malini), "Rukmini Parinay," "Yashoda Krishna," "Draupadi," and "Radha Raasbihari." His Bollywood choreography credits are extensive, beginning with his debut in "Ab Aayega Maza" (1984) and including notable films like "Parinda" (1989), "Prem" (1995), "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" (1999), "The Blue Umbrella" (2005), "Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster" (2011), "Naam" (2022), and "Rudali." He has also performed globally at renowned venues such as the Bolshoi Theatre and Madison Square Garden, and has conducted workshops in India, the U.S.A., U.K., and the Netherlands. Beyond choreography, Lakandri has also acted, notably portraying Vishnu in the television serial "Ramayana." He currently envisions establishing an educational institute in Darjeeling.
