Caroline Gebert-Khan, of German-Indian origin, was born and raised in Stuttgart, Germany. She dedicated her life to classical Indian dance, beginning her training in Germany under Angelika Sriram. She then spent twelve years in Sri Lanka and India, where she intensively studied classical Indian dance (Bharatanatyam), music, and Sanskrit. During this period, she completed four state examinations under the tutelage of Srimathy Haridevi Jayasundera at Kalakshetra. Her traditional Arangetram (debut performance) took place on September 21, 1985, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, under the patronage of the German Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dr. Gerhard Pfeiffer. She pursued further studies in Bharatanatyam in Chennai, India, with renowned teachers such as Sri Adyar Lakshman, Srimathy Savithri Jagannatha-Rao, and Professor N. S. Jayalakshmi, all associated with Kalakshetra. In 2002, she expanded her repertoire by learning Mohiniyattam from Dr. Kalamandala Radhika at the Kalamandala Institution in Kerala. In 1988, Caroline Gebert-Khan founded and became the director of Tanzschule LOTUS in Stuttgart, which she has successfully led since. She has established an international reputation as a dancer, choreographer, and teacher, performing on international stages for over 30 years and for 40 years. Her performances have taken place in temples in India and in churches, museums, and theaters across Europe. Her artistic endeavors include TV productions, dance performances, lectures, and seminars in Asia and Europe. Since 2004, she has served as an examiner for Bharatanatyam for the Oriental Examination Board London (OEBL) in London and Southern Germany. She has also collaborated on various productions, including "Trinity" with musician and composer Georg Lawall. She aims to pass on her knowledge and passion for dance to her students, keeping the legacy of Indian classical dance alive at the Lotus dance school.
