Chandrika Kurup is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, particularly renowned for her contributions to Mohiniyattam. She received her training in Mohiniyattam from the legendary Smt. Kalamandalam Kalyanikutty Amma. In addition to Mohiniyattam, she also trained in Odissi under Guru Trinath Maharana and received instruction in Bharathanatyam and Kuchipudi. Chandrika Kurup is recognized as one of the foremost exponents of Mohiniyattam. Her extensive career has seen her perform across various national and international stages, including throughout India, the USA, West Germany, Bahrain, and the UAE. She holds significant leadership positions at the Noopura Institute of Classical Dance in Trivandrum, where she serves as the Assistant Director and Head of the Department of Mohiniyattam. The Noopura Institute, established in 1970 by Smt. Kalamandalam Kalyanikutty Amma, has been instrumental in training numerous artists in Mohiniyattam, Bharathanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Odissi. Her teaching legacy includes notable students such as Gopika Verma, who is recognized as one of the top Mohiniyattam dancers in the country. Chandrika Kurup's dedication to preserving and promoting classical Indian dance forms, especially Mohiniyattam, has solidified her position as an influential teacher and performer.
