Dr. Chitra's academic credentials are robust, including a T.T.C., a background as a Traditional Musician, a B.A. in Sociology, and a Ph.D., underscoring her comprehensive understanding of both the practical and theoretical aspects of her art. Her artistic merit is further acknowledged by her status as a Bharathanatyam Grade Artist in Doordarshan Kendra, India's public service broadcaster, highlighting her recognized performing capabilities. With an extensive background spanning approximately 22 years in teaching and research, Dr. Chitra has made significant contributions to the propagation and evolution of Indian classical dance. Her profound dedication and excellence in the art form have been recognized with the prestigious "Kalaimamani" title, a high civilian award bestowed by the Government of Tamil Nadu to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the arts.
