Chitra Chandrasekhar Dasarathy is a distinguished Bharatanatyam choreographer, performer, and teacher, and the daughter of renowned classical dancers Padma Bhushan Prof. C.V. Chandrasekhar and Jaya Chandrasekhar. Her early training in Bharatanatyam began at a very young age under the tutelage of her illustrious parents. She furthered her academic pursuits, earning Master's degrees in Performing Arts (Dance) and Sanskrit from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. Additionally, she holds a Bachelor of Music and has received training in Hindusthani and Rabindra Sangeeth. Throughout her career, Chitra Chandrasekhar Dasarathy has made significant contributions to the field of Indian classical dance. She is the Artistic Director of the Ameya Repertory, based in Bangalore, where she leads performances and choreographic endeavors. Her extensive choreographic works encompass both traditional Bharatanatyam repertoire and innovative solos and group productions. Notable solo choreographies include "Geet Govindam," "Chandrodaya," "Dwanya," "Kunti," "Sowmanasa," "Samvada," "Hathor and I," "Dhvanya," "Geetagovinda," "Saumanasa," "The Flowering Tree," and "Raktamallika-Why Is The Jasmine Red." Her group works feature productions such as "Pachatantra Chatushra," "Rati Rang," "Apara," and "Roots." Beyond her performance and choreographic roles, Chitra Chandrasekhar Dasarathy is a dedicated educator. She has imparted her knowledge and expertise as a dance instructor at the Central University, Hyderabad, and Azim Premji University in Bangalore. Her teaching legacy is evident in her mentorship of numerous students, many of whom have gone on to establish their own dance institutions and pursue successful careers in Bharatanatyam, both in India and internationally. Her artistic expression is characterized by an aesthetic sensibility that resonates with contemporary audiences. Awards & Honours: University Grants Commission research scholarship.
