Dr. Debaldev Jana is an accomplished Bharatanatyam performer and a distinguished academician in Mathematics, known for his unique integration of both fields. Born in Tamluk, West Bengal, his journey in Bharatanatyam began in childhood under the tutelage of Guru Debabrata Chakraborty. He further honed his skills in the Tanjore style, learning from Guru Kalamandalam V. R. Venkitt and Smt. Preetha Venkitt in Kolkata. He also received mentorship from Kalaimamani Guru Thanjavur Herembanathan Pillai, deepening his understanding of the Thanjavur Bani of Bharatanatyam. Academically, Dr. Jana holds B.Sc, M.Sc, and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He pursued postdoctoral research at Visva Bharati University and the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, Japan, and was a recipient of prestigious postdoctoral fellowships from the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) and the Dr. D. S. Kothari Fellowship by the UGC. He is an empanelled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and a Graded Artist of Doordarshan since 2017. Throughout his career, Dr. Jana has performed extensively at prestigious venues globally, including Natyanjali-Chidambaram, Brahan Natyanjali-Thanjavur, India Habitat Center-New Delhi, The Royal Society-London, Nehru Centre-London, and Ramakrishna Mission-Tokyo. He is currently an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Belur Math, West Bengal. His innovative research includes "Multimedia Analysis of Indian Classical Dance: The Case of Bharatanatyam Adavus" in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur, exploring the mathematical modeling of dance movements. He is also recognized for his choreographic skills. S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship by UGC.
