Deepa Hegde is a distinguished Bharatanatyam performer, choreographer, and teacher currently based in Munich, Germany. Her artistic journey began at the tender age of six in Sirsi, Karnataka, India, where she commenced her training in Bharatanatyam under the guidance of Guru Dr. Sahana Bhat. After years of dedicated practice and honing her skills, she marked her solo debut with an Arangetrum in 2005. Furthering her advanced studies, Deepa Hegde moved to Bangalore to train under the tutelage of the esteemed Bharatanatyam dancer and Guru Karnataka Kalashree Dr. Sathyanarayana Raju. With over two decades of experience in Indian classical dance, she holds a Vidwat grade in Bharatanatyam from Karnataka Secondary Education and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Bharatanatyam from Tamil University, Tanjore. Her extensive learning also includes participating in specialized workshops with legendary figures such as Padmashri Vyjayanthimala Bali, Guru Smt. Bragha Bessel, and Padmashri Narthaki Nataraj. Deepa Hegde is recognized for her solo performances and original choreographic works, alongside her participation in group productions. She is an active interdisciplinary artist, frequently collaborating with individuals from diverse artistic backgrounds and disciplines. Her mentors in this contemporary phase of her career include Dr. Rajyashree Ramesh from Berlin and Mavin Khoo from London. As the Artistic Director of Mārgam school of dance in Munich, Germany, Deepa Hegde is committed to fostering the art of Bharatanatyam. The school, her "humble initiative," aims to provide a welcoming space for students of all ages to learn and explore this classical Indian dance form. She employs an effective teaching methodology that integrates an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and movement techniques to promote healthy and injury-free dancing. Her performance credits include "Chiguru" with her students, a solo performance in Mandapa, Paris, and workshops like 'Tanzen im Park' in Munich. She has also been involved in collaborative projects such as the Co-creation Lab by TanzQuelle – HochX theatre in Munich in 2021. Deepa Hegde's accomplishments include being an acclaimed graded artist of Doordarshan and receiving the Ravi Datar Puraskara from Natyanjali Nritya Kala Kendra, Hubli.
