Deepa Nallappan, based in Montréal, Canada, is a dedicated practitioner, performer, and instructor of Bharatanatyam, renowned for her fervour, expertise, and elegance. She views dance as a potent form of expression that transforms the dancer on stage. Deepa received her Bharatanatyam training from Guru Sri M Swamy and Smt. Jyothi Pattabhiram. In addition to Bharatanatyam, she is also proficient in Mohiniattam and Yakshagana. Deepa Nallappan is the Artistic Director of “Param des Arts,” a non-profit organization in Montreal dedicated to promoting and preserving Indian Classical arts. This organization is also referred to as "Param Nrithyalaya," where she teaches Bharatanatyam to children and aspiring young talents. She has delivered numerous memorable performances at prestigious cultural centers and events, including Chidambaram Natyanjali, Brahan Natyanjali, Natyatharanga, and Nruthya Samagama. A significant contribution to the cultural landscape of Montréal is her role as the visionary founder and curator of the Montréal Natyanjali festival. This annual event, held around Maha Shivaratri, unites artists from diverse classical backgrounds to pay homage to Lord Shiva, drawing participants from across Canada and North America. The festival celebrated its 10-year anniversary in March 2025, becoming a vital platform for the preservation and promotion of Indian classical dance. Deepa Nallappan is considered an essential part of Montréal's professional dance community, known for building bridges between traditional and contemporary Indian dance through collaborations.
