Deepa Raghavan is an accomplished Indian classical dancer specializing in Bharatanatyam, known for her graceful, confident, and mature performances, particularly lauded for her abhinaya (expressive acting). Her journey in dance began with an initial exposure to Kathak in Ghaziabad. She later delved into Mohiniattam, learning from Guru Bharati Shivaji and her daughter Vijayalakshmi in Delhi for approximately a year. Transitioning to Bharatanatyam, she received tutelage from Guru Nagarajan. Following her arangetram, Deepa Raghavan further honed her skills under the esteemed Guru Kanaka Srinivasan, a prominent exponent of the Vazhuvoor style, which significantly influenced her dancing. She also trained under A. Lakshman, a disciple of Guru K.J. Sarasa, and has worked with abhinaya expert Bragha Bessel, beginning around 2011. Deepa Raghavan is recognized as a senior artiste, teacher, and choreographer. Her performances have been featured in significant cultural events, including her Mumbai debut at The Fine Arts Society, Chembur, in June 2025, a performance in Dehradun in 1996, and a recital at Narada Gana Sabha in December 2019. She also has a background in music, having studied Hindustani music briefly and Carnatic music for several years.
