Devika Dhawan is a dance instructor, choreographer, and the founder and director of DFD Academy, a dance school based in the Greater Boston Area, USA. She has a strong background in Indian classical dance, having trained in Bharatanatyam for 11 years under Smt. Neena Gulati at the Triveni School of Dance. Dhawan's dance journey also includes training in Hip Hop and Bollywood styles, and she has been involved in dance for over 20 years. During her college years, Dhawan was a dancer and later captain of Boston University Chankaar, the university's premier South Asian dance troupe. After graduation, she continued to hone her skills by training and performing with the Urban Connection Dance Company in Boston. Dhawan founded DFD Academy (initially known as Devika Fusion Dance) with a mission to blend Eastern and Western dance styles, creating a unique fusion approach. The academy offers precision-based training in various genres, including Bollywood, Hip Hop, Folk, Contemporary, and Classical dance, aiming to make dance accessible and empowering for students. DFD Academy operates in multiple locations, including North Andover, Westford, and Burlington, MA, and also has a professional dance company, DFD & Co., in Boston. Through her academy, Dhawan seeks to help students, particularly those from the Indo-American diaspora, engage with and embrace their cultural identity through dance.
