Devika Nair is an accomplished Indian classical dancer and guru, trained in the Kalamandalam style of Indian Classical dances. Her journey in dance began at the tender age of three, when she commenced her initial Bharatanatyam training under Guru Smt. Chandrika at the Natyalaya School of Classical Dances in Kothamangalam, Kerala, India. At seven, she furthered her education at the Natyalaya School in Perumbavoor, Kerala, where she underwent over 15 years of intensive training in multiple Indian performing art forms, including Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, Kerala Natanam, and various folk dances, under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Kalamandalam Sumathy. She also received valuable lessons and training from other eminent gurus such as Smt. Kalamandalam Leelamma, Smt. Rukmini Vijayakumar, Smt. Kalamandalam Kshemavathy, and Shri RLV Anand. Nair's teaching career commenced at the age of 14, providing dance lessons from her home. In 2004, she founded Shivalaya Classical Dances in Kerala, India, serving as its Artistic Director for many years. She later established Shivarchana Classical Dances in 2014. After relocating to the United States, Devika Nair founded the Sattvika Dance Academy in 2016. With over 25 years of teaching experience, she is recognized among the Indian diaspora as a significant figure dedicated to preserving and promoting Indian culture and traditions for future generations. She has choreographed numerous performances for her students, including arangetrams. Devika Nair has participated in youth festivals and earned numerous accolades in district, state, and national-level competitions. She was also part of a 1,200-member dance team that secured a place in the Guinness Book of Records in 2006.
