Dimpee Baishya is a distinguished Indian classical dancer renowned for her expertise in Sattriya, a major classical dance form originating from Assam, India. Her dedication to the art form is evident through both her performance career and academic pursuits. Baishya is currently a PhD Research Scholar in the Department of Performing Arts at Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva Vishwavidyalaya, Guwahati, Assam. Her scholarly contributions include co-authoring a paper titled "Guru Kirtan of Kamalabari Sattra: Ritual, Music and Performance in the Neo-Vaishnavite Tradition of Assam," which highlights her deep engagement with the historical and philosophical aspects of Sattriya. Her journey as a performer reached a significant milestone with her Ranga-Pravesh, a debut solo performance, titled "Sadhana-Darpan," held in 2009 at Rabindra Bhawan in Guwahati, Assam. Since then, she has captivated audiences with her renditions of various traditional Sattriya compositions. Her repertoire includes intricate pieces such as 'UDHAB-SAMBAD', "Daswatar", "Abhinaya of KUMAL GEET", "Yashoda Krishna", "Kalio-Daman from “KRISHNAKATHAAMRIT”", and "Abhinaya of Nandi Slok from Rukmini Haran Ankia Nat," the latter choreographed by the esteemed Padmasree Jatin Goswami. Her artistic excellence has been recognized with prestigious accolades, including the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Purashkar for Sattriya in 2022 and the NARTANA KALA VIDUSHI AWARD in 2023. Beyond performing, Baishya actively contributes to the dance community by serving as a judge in national-level dance competitions, such as the Nritya Manjary 2024 organized by Manjary Dance Academy in Guwahati, further solidifying her position as an influential figure in the Indian classical dance landscape.
