Dipanwita Roy is an eminent and renowned Indian classical Odissi dancer, choreographer, and teacher. She received her initial training in Odissi from Shri Murlidhar Majhi from 1975 to 1979. She then pursued advanced training under the legendary Padmavibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, beginning in 1980, and later under Padmashree Late Shrimati Sanjukta Panigrahi from 1992 to 1996. Roy holds a Senior Diploma in Odissi with distinction from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. Beyond dance, she also earned a 5-Year Degree in Commercial Art & Photography from the Government College of Art & Crafts, Kolkata, which she credits with enhancing her interpretation of sculptural poses in her Odissi recitals. In 1984, Dipanwita Roy founded Shibaranjani, a school of Odissi dance in Kolkata, India. The institution is a voluntary non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Indian Classical Music & Dance and nurturing young talent, including physically challenged and socially neglected individuals. Since 2000, Shibaranjani has provided free dance and painting lessons to girls from Apne Aap Women Worldwide, an organization combating sex trafficking. In 2011, Shibaranjani expanded its reach by launching branches in Manhattan and White Plains, New York, USA, under the guidance of her daughter, Priyadarshini. Roy has performed extensively at major cultural centers across India and has toured internationally, conducting performances, workshops, and demonstrations in countries such as the USA, UK, France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and Italy.
