Dr. S. Divyasena is a distinguished Indian classical dancer, teacher, and choreographer specializing in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. Her extensive training includes Bharatanatyam under Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan (for Abhinaya) and Sri J. Suryanarayana Murthy, and Kuchipudi under Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam and Sri Mosalikanti Jai Kishore. She holds an M.Phil. and M.A. in Bharatanatyam, an M.A. in Kuchipudi, and a B.A. in Music. Dr. Divyasena earned her PhD in Bharatanatyam in 2019. She is an "A" grade artist with Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai, and has been performing since her Arangetram in 1985. In 1994, Dr. Divyasena founded the Divyanjali School of Classical Dance and Music in Chennai, where she serves as Director. The academy offers comprehensive Bharatanatyam training, blending theory and practical classes, and has made numerous international appearances, including tours to the USA, Europe, Bangkok, Singapore, Australia, Sri Lanka, and UAE. She has choreographed and performed dance dramas internationally, such as 'Krishna Leela' in France with 80 students and 'Hanuman Chalisa' in London in 1999. Academically, Dr. Divyasena has held positions as Assistant Professor in the Department of Bharatanatyam at Aria University (and previously at the University of Silicon Andhra), and as Guest Faculty at Christ University (Bangalore) and the University of Madras. She is also the secretary of Prayathnam, a forum for young dancers and teachers dedicated to sharing knowledge of dance. Her contributions to the art form have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Nritya Kala Bharathi, Yuva Kala Bharathi, Natyacharya, and the Best Teacher Award from the Madras Music Academy. She has also compiled "Adavus of Bharatanatyam" and released an audio CD "Nrithyaharam" for students.
