Dr. Anuradha Murali is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, primarily specializing in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. Born in Bangalore, Karnataka, India, she received her initial Bharatanatyam training under Radha Srinivassan. She pursued advanced training in Bharatanatyam from renowned gurus Shanta and V.P. Dhananjayan at Bharathakalanjali in Chennai, India, and Adyar K. Lakshman at Bharatha Choodamani, also in Chennai. Her expertise extends to Kuchipudi, where she trained with P. Rajeshwari and received advanced instruction from the world-renowned Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam at the Kuchipudi Art Academy in Chennai. Dr. Murali is the Artistic Director of the Mrudani School of Performing Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Indian classical dance through classes, performances, and lecture-demonstrations in the United States. She has held academic positions as an Adjunct Professor of Dance at Columbia College and an Instructor of Dance at the University of South Carolina, both in Columbia, SC. Her career as a performer is extensive, with tours across India, the United States (in 1982, 1984, 1994, and 1998), the USSR (1987), and Europe (1989). She has performed as a leading artist in many of Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam's ballets and graced prestigious stages such as the Khajuraho dance festival in March 1993. Dr. Murali has also been invited to perform and conduct workshops at international venues including the World Congress on Dance Research in Athens, Greece, and the World Dance Alliance in Sao Paolo, Brazil, and Florence, Italy. She has performed at dance festivals in Japan, France, and South Korea. Beyond her artistic pursuits, Dr. Murali holds a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology and contributes to cancer research at the Medical University of South Carolina, showcasing a unique blend of scientific and artistic excellence. She is a recipient of numerous grants and awards for her contributions to dance choreography and performance in the USA. Awards & Honours: Natyasevika (2019).
