Dr. Aparna Neelakandhan is a Bharatanatyam dancer, born in 1989 in Kerala, India. Her initial foray into Indian classical dance began at the age of five, when she commenced her training in Riyadh under the guidance of Ms. Neeraja Rajendran. In 1998, Dr. Neelakandhan moved to Switzerland with her family, where she continued her rigorous Bharatanatyam education at the Nateschwara Academy in Baden. For a decade, she honed her skills under the mentorship of Mrs. Vijaya Rao, completing her foundational training. A significant milestone in her artistic journey was her Ranga Pravesha, or stage debut, which took place in 2008. Following her graduation from Kantonsschule Wettingen, she dedicated herself further to her studies. Since 2014, Dr. Aparna Neelakandhan has been an active and integral member of the Nateschwara Dance Company. She is recognized for her graceful and seemingly effortless dancing, coupled with a distinct sense of rhythm, a strong memory, and remarkable precision, all of which contribute to her well-rounded performances. Dr. Neelakandhan expresses that Bharatanatyam deeply connects her to her native India, particularly South India, and its rich, ancient culture. She finds immense pleasure, strength, and a profound sense of life through dance, viewing her continuous learning in Bharatanatyam as a long and beautiful journey that is still unfolding.
