Dr. Bhuvana Kannan is a visionary multidisciplinary artist, dancer, and choreographer with over two decades of experience in the art form of Bharatanatyam. Her journey in dance began under the tutelage of the esteemed Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee, Kalaimamani Smt. Ranganayaki Jayaraman, at the 80-year-old Sri Saraswathi Gana Nilayam Trust (SGN) in Tamil Nadu, India. Through unwavering passion and rigorous training from various gurus, she has refined her skills to perfection. Dr. Kannan has captivated audiences with her grace, precision, and emotive storytelling on stages both nationally and internationally. Beyond her prowess as a performer, she is renowned as a teacher par excellence, deeply committed to preserving and propagating the rich cultural heritage of Bharatanatyam. Her teaching philosophy extends beyond mere dance techniques, focusing on nurturing well-rounded individuals who embody the essence of Bharatanatyam. Uniquely, Dr. Kannan is also a scientist by profession, and she integrates elements of science and mathematics into her dance instruction, teaching students the science behind the techniques and the math behind the 'thalams' (rhythms). She leads Artham Natya, a premier Bharatanatyam dance academy.
