Dr. Rayasam Vasant Kiran is a celebrated figure in Indian classical dance, recognized for his mastery in both Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam. Born in Andhra Pradesh, his journey in dance began with rigorous training under revered gurus. He received his Kuchipudi training from the legendary Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam, and also from Vempatti Ravi Shankar and Guru Manju Bharggavee. For Bharatanatyam, he trained under Mandakini Udupi. Beyond his artistic prowess, Dr. Vasant Kiran is also a distinguished scholar, holding multiple academic degrees, including a Ph.D. in Management, and has earned gold medals in dance studies. His career as a performer, choreographer, and teacher has left a significant mark both in India and internationally. Dr. Vasant Kiran has showcased Indian classical arts across 35 countries and has choreographed over 100 original dance pieces in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, many of which have been performed globally and released on CD. He is also an accomplished Nattuvanar, accompanying leading dancers on prestigious stages. As an educator, Dr. Vasant Kiran has been transformative. He served as the founding head of performing arts departments at Alliance University and REVA University, where he integrated arts with management to inspire a new generation of performers. He currently runs Bharata Kala Grama, a residential Gurukulam in Karnataka, offering free training to underprivileged students to ensure the accessibility and preservation of classical arts. He is also the director of Natyanidhi Institute of Performing Arts. His contributions have earned him numerous accolades, solidifying his stature in the classical dance world.
