🪔 About
Dr. Sindhoori Jayasinghe, also known as Dr. Sinduri Jayasinghe, is an internationally acclaimed Indian classical dancer, guru, and the founder of Savithri Arts Academy. Born into a family where her mother went into labor while watching a performance, Dr. Sinduri began her intensive Bharatanatyam training at the tender age of three under the tutelage of Kalaimani Pakkirasamy Pillai, one of India's leading dance gurus. She performed her Arangetram, a dancer's debut public performance, at the age of seven. Dr. Sinduri graduated from Madras Music College and furthered her academic pursuits by earning a Doctorate of Philosophy in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi from the International University in California in 1996. Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Sinduri has given over 2500 performances worldwide, many of which were presided over by presidents and prime ministers. She holds the distinction of being the youngest dancer invited to perform for the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi in the early 1990s. For over a decade, she was recognized as an 'A' grade artist on Indian television. Dr. Sinduri is highly skilled in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Mohiniattam, and various Indian folk dances. She specializes in choreographing and directing dance dramas that explore themes ranging from Hindu Mythology to contemporary social justice issues. In 1997, the same year she married Dhammika Jayasinghe, Dr. Sinduri established the Savithri Arts Academy in Los Angeles, California. As the founder, director, and guru, she has been instrumental in preserving and promoting Indian classical dance forms, teaching students globally, including through online platforms. Her academy teaches the Thanjavur & Pandanallur styles of Bharatanatyam and the style of Late Padma Bhushan Vempati Chinna Satyam for Kuchipudi. Dr. Sinduri has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious "Kalaimamani" title from the Tamil Nadu State, honoring her significant contributions to the arts. She continues to perform and recently toured India, with performances in Bangalore and Hyderabad. Awards & Honours: Kalaimamani.
