Dr. Sridhar Vasudevan is a distinguished Indian classical dance figure, renowned Carnatic musician, vocalist, and Bharatanatyam dancer. He is celebrated for his dual mastery in both music and dance, viewing them as intrinsically connected, like body and soul. Dr. Vasudevan received his extensive training and discipleship in Bharatanatyam under the legendary virtuoso Padmashree Guru Smt. Vyjayanthimala Bali for nearly 12 years, acquiring a strong foundation and understanding of the philosophy of Bharatanatyam through a meticulous Gurukul system. He also trained under Jayalakshmi Ishwar. Further expanding his artistic repertoire, he learned Carnatic Music and imbibed the foundational techniques of Kathakali under Guru Sadanam Sh. Balakrishnan and Chhau under Guru Sh. Shashidhar Acharya. Based in Delhi, Dr. Vasudevan is a prolific artist, contributing significantly as a composer and vocalist for various classical performances in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. His performances are noted for their extensive sadhana and adherence to his guru's teachings, showcasing his profound expertise. He has choreographed and presented unique works, including music for productions like “Anekanta,” “Dramatic Tales,” “Shri Ranga Kshetra,” and “Shri Venkata Kshetra.” Dr. Vasudevan is also an accomplished nattuvanar and choreographer, with his creativity bringing a special quality to his dance. Dr. Sonal Mansingh has lauded him as the best male Bharatanatyam dancer she has seen in India. He regularly performs at prestigious festivals and collaborates with eminent artists, enhancing his reputation in classical dance and music. In 2003, Dr. Vasudevan founded the HAMSINI Center in New Delhi, where he continues to practice and teach the art forms he has mastered, carrying forward the legacy of his esteemed mentors.
