G. Elangovan, also known as Elangovan Govindarajan, is a highly acclaimed nattuvanar, singer, music composer, and teacher in the realm of Indian classical dance. He is the son and disciple of the renowned Guru K.J. Govindarajan, a pioneer in establishing Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music training in North India. Elangovan holds an M.A. silver medal in Indian Classical Vocal Music from Rabindra Bharati University. Throughout his career, Elangovan has significantly enriched the dance world by composing numerous pieces, including Varnams, Jatiswarams, Kritis, Bhajans, and Tillanas, for which he has received critical acclaim. He is equally proficient in nattuvangam (conducting a dance recital), music composition, and dance choreography. A distinctive skill he possesses is the ability to sing and recite jatis while simultaneously playing the cymbals. As an empanelled artiste of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), he has performed extensively in over 52 countries, captivating audiences with his classical, light classical, and devotional music. Elangovan is the Founder-Director of the Parampara Centre for Indian Classical Music and Dance, an institution he leads alongside his wife, Guru Marie Elangovan, an accomplished Bharatanatyam exponent. Together, they are dedicated to imparting the knowledge of classical dance and music to numerous students.
