Eliane Béranger is a prominent French dance anthropologist and Indian dance specialist, recognized as one of the pioneering figures in promoting Indian performing arts in Europe. She has been actively involved with Indian dance since 1976 and is a Bharatanatyam dancer herself. Béranger holds a PhD in Aesthetics from the Ethno-scenology laboratory of Paris 8 University, which she obtained in 2004. Her academic and practical engagement with Indian dance is further highlighted by her authorship of "À la rencontre des danses de l'Inde," published in 1982 and reissued in 2001. She is a long-standing member of Centre Mandapa in Paris, a premier institution dedicated to the dissemination of arts and culture, where she currently manages the archives. Her work as a scholar and dance anthropologist involves considering traditional performing arts as pure temporary forms, and she has contributed articles such as "Le corps hindou dansant" to academic publications.
