🪔 About
Evoor Rajendran Pillai is a distinguished Indian classical dancer and a revered figure in the Kathakali tradition. He is recognized for his profound artistry as a performer and his significant contributions as an educator and institution head. Pillai currently serves as the Principal of the International Centre for Kathakali (ICK) in Delhi, a role that underscores his leadership in promoting and preserving the art form. His training in Kathakali was under the tutelage of the eminent Kalamandalam Rajan Master, whose legacy he continues through his performances and teaching. Evoor Rajendran Pillai has graced the stage with various traditional Kathakali roles, including his portrayal of Balabhadrar in the "Subhadraharanam kathakali" performance. Demonstrating his versatility and innovative spirit, he also notably essayed the character of Othello in a Kathakali adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy, showcasing the adaptability of the classical dance form to global narratives. His standing in the Indian classical dance community was formally recognized in 2011 when he was empanelled as an "Established" Kathakali artist by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), an autonomous organization of the Government of India. While his professional base as Principal of ICK is in Delhi, his origins and strong ties remain with Kerala, the birthplace of Kathakali.
