Fasih Ur Rehman is a distinguished Kathak maestro hailing from Lahore, Pakistan. He is widely recognized as the foremost male Kathak dancer in Pakistan, boasting over 30 years of experience in the art form. His extensive training began in 1977, where he became a devoted disciple of Maharaj Ghulam Hussain Kathak in Lahore, Pakistan, for two decades until 1998. Maharaj Ghulam Hussain Kathak is often credited as the father of Kathak in Pakistan and was himself a disciple of Acchan Maharaj, the father of Pt. Birju Maharaj. This lineage places Fasih Ur Rehman within the Lahore-Lucknow Gharana tradition. Following his foundational training, Fasih Ur Rehman further honed his skills under the tutelage of the legendary Kumudini Lakhia, studying with her in London and Ahmedabad, India. His public appearances commenced in the 1980s, and he performed under Kumudini Lakhia's direction in Pakistan and England throughout the 1990s. Fasih Ur Rehman has since become a leading figure in the global Kathak scene, participating in numerous international events across Italy, the United Kingdom, Tunisia, Dubai, the United States, Japan, and Spain, among other countries. He also worked closely with The Kathak Society (TKS) in Karachi from 1998 to 2001. Known for his emotionally resonant performances, his ability to seamlessly transition between masculine and feminine roles, and his pristine technique, Fasih Ur Rehman continues to teach regularly in London and other locations across Europe and Asia, while also performing on diverse international stages.
