🪔 About
G. Kausalya is a notable figure in the realm of Bharatanatyam, recognized as both a performer and a teacher. She is a distinguished disciple of Pandanallur Chokkalingam Pillai, a pivotal guru in the evolution and propagation of the Pandanallur style of Bharatanatyam. Chokkalingam Pillai, who lived from 1893 to 1968, was the son-in-law and successor to the revered Pandanallur Meenakshisundaram Pillai, often hailed as the doyen of the Pandanallur bani. This lineage places G. Kausalya firmly within one of the most respected and influential traditions of Bharatanatyam. She was counted among the leading dancers trained by Chokkalingam Pillai, alongside other prominent artists such as Sucharita and Indrani Rehman. G. Kausalya was actively performing during the 1950s and 1960s, contributing to the vibrant classical dance scene of that era. While her primary base is India, her guru's efforts to propagate the Pandanallur style in Madras (now Chennai) suggest her significant involvement in the dance community of that region.
