🪔 About
Gargy Banerjee is an accomplished Odissi dancer with a significant performance and training history primarily based in Vancouver, Canada. She initially studied Bharatanatyam in India for two years before beginning her formal training in Odissi in Vancouver, B.C., in 1992. Her initial Odissi guru was Ratna Roy. By 1994, Banerjee became a member of Urvasi, a dance organization. Her career as a performer saw her grace stages across Washington State, and at two international festivals in Winnipeg and Ottawa. Notably, in 1995, she achieved first place in a North American showcase held in Ottawa, which led to an invitation to perform in Germany for three weeks during a dance festival in July and August of the same year. Furthering her artistic development, Gargy Banerjee traveled to India in 2000 for three months to undertake intensive study under Guru Muralidhar Majhi, a trip made possible by the prestigious Indo-Shastri Fellowship from Canada. Awards & Honours: First Place, North American Showcase (1995).
