Dr. Gayatri Kannan is a prominent Bharatanatyam dancer, vocalist, and a senior disciple of the renowned Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, Director of Nrithyodaya. Hailing from an artistic family, her mother, Smt. Uma Sriram, is also a senior disciple and lecturer at Nrithyodaya, and her father, Sri T.S. Sriram, handles Bhajans and Vedic Heritage classes at the institution. Gayatri Kannan received extensive training at Nrithyodaya, completing the “Nritya Pravesika” Certificate Course, “Nritya Visaradha” Diploma Course, and “Nritya Sali” Post Diploma Certificate Course, which focused on the 108 Karanas of Natya Sastra. She also trained in Carnatic music under Vidwan Sri S. Rajam. Beyond solo performances, she frequently accompanies her guru in dance numbers and group productions, serving as the main singer for Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam's dance concerts. Her career has involved extensive travel within India and internationally, including to the USA, Canada, UK, France, Portugal, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Australia, where she has also presented numerous lecture demonstrations. Dr. Gayatri Kannan actively assists her guru in various research activities. Her arangetram was a significant milestone in her dance journey. Awards & Honours: Abhyasa Nritya Vardhani (2024).
