Gayatri Subramanian is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and choreographer, born on June 24, 1964, in Jamshedpur, India. Her early life in Rajasthan fostered a deep appreciation for vibrant cultures and folk traditions. She later moved to Mumbai, where she was initiated into Bharatanatyam by her foster parents and Gurus, Shri G.V. Ramani and Smt. Ranganayaki, who were pioneers in the field. Her continuous learning journey included training under Guru Jayashree Nair, Director of Upasana Dance Institute, after her foster parents relocated to Bangalore. She further honed her skills under luminaries such as the late Guru Shri Mahalingam Pillai, Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan, and the late Shri Ramaswamy Bhagavatar. Currently, she is pursuing advanced studies in Bharatanatyam and Nattuvangam from Guru Smt. Rajee Narayan. Academically, Gayatri Subramanian holds a Gold Medal in her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and completed her Master's in Bharatanatyam (MFA) in 2010-2011 from Shri Sarfojiraje Bhosale Centre's Bharata College of Fine Arts & Culture, Mumbai, where she secured the second position with first division marks. Her musical foundation in Carnatic music began with her maternal grand-aunt, Smt. Muthulakshmi, and was further developed under Smt. Saraswathi Subramanian in Mumbai. Her teaching career commenced in 1988 with an association with Navi Mumbai Tamil Sangham, Vashi. In 1990, she founded the Takshashila Dance Academy in Navi Mumbai, where she serves as the founder-director. Through the academy, she has imparted Bharatanatyam training to over 250 students, many of whom have successfully performed their Arangetram. Her students are spread globally, continuing to perform and teach the art form. Gayatri Subramanian is also a creative choreographer, known for popular dance productions such as Krishna Leela, Kutrala Kuravanji, Panchakam, Ramayana, Panchakanya, and Andal Kalyanam. Awards & Honours: Gold Medal in BFA, Kalaimamani, Shivali Nritya Shiromani, Top 10 Women Achievers for contributions to Fine Arts.
