Geetha Sridhar is a professional Bharathanatyam dancer, performer, tutor, and choreographer with a career spanning over 30 years. She is a traditional Bharathanatyam exponent, having trained at the renowned Kalakshetra School of art and dance in India. Sridhar further expanded her artistic horizons by working for seven years with Chandralekha's dance company, a pioneer in contemporary Indian dance, and has also delved into modern and contemporary dance forms. She holds a Masters degree in Dance Training and Education from the University of Kent. Currently residing in London, UK, Geetha Sridhar is a lecturer at Kingston and Chichester Universities, where she teaches various modules on the Dance undergraduate course, including 'Performing Cultures' and 'Dancing Cultures'. She is also a committed staff member of the London School of Carnatic Music, for which she has devised her own Bharathanatyam syllabus covering eight grades. Sridhar is the head of Natyasri Dance Company, through which she nurtures young talent to a professional level. She teaches Bharathanatyam from foundation to advanced levels, adapting bespoke teaching techniques and incorporating disciplines such as Yoga, Kalari, and Kolam into her choreographic work. She offers private lessons, group classes, residencies, and workshops, and trains students for their Arangetram and grade exams. Geetha Sridhar has performed internationally at art festivals in countries including Russia, Germany, Italy, Australia, Canada, France, and the United Kingdom. She was invited to be the Artistic Director, choreographer, and performer at historic events to welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Wembley Stadium in 2015 and in Munich in 2022. She also served as a mentor and panellist for the South Asian strand of BBC Young Dancer in 2019 and was a member of the judging panel in the 2022 series of the show. Her sister, Sukanya Ramesh, is a renowned South Indian film actress, and together they are known as the “Besant Nagar Sisters”. Her daughter, Sandhya Sridhar, is trained in Odissi dance.
