🪔 About
Ginette Dion is a professional Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and choreographer, recognized for her contributions to Indian classical dance in Canada and India. She commenced her Bharatanatyam training in 1990 under the tutelage of Mr. Jai Govinda at the Vancouver Jai Govinda Dance Academy. Her dedication to the art form led her to further her studies in India with internationally renowned teachers, including Mrs. Jayalakshmi Eshwar, director of the Abhinayaa School of Dance in New Delhi, and more recently, with Mrs. Smita Mahajan and Mr. Parimal Phadke in Pune. In September 1996, Ginette Dion presented her Arangetram, a traditional solo debut of a complete Bharatanatyam repertoire, under the direction of Jai Govinda. Beyond her classical Indian dance training, Dion also pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Dance from the University of Quebec in Montreal in 2001 and completed a teacher's training in Iyengar yoga. She began teaching Bharatanatyam in 1997 and has conducted workshops at various dance institutions, including The Montreal Modern Dance workshops, the Montreal Dance Conservatory, and the Louise Lapierre Dance School. In March 2005, she founded SATTVIKA DANSE to further her artistic endeavors and promote Bharatanatyam to a wider audience. Through her academy, she has produced numerous Bharatanatyam performances. Dion has also explored contemporary dance, developing a personal gestural vocabulary rooted in Bharatanatyam's rhythms, emotions, and sculptural poses. Awards & Honours: Scholarship (2000), Scholarship (2003).
