Dr. Hima Bindu Kanoj is an internationally acclaimed Kuchipudi dancer, revered maestro, cultural ambassador, and researcher. Initiated into Indian Classical Dance at the age of five, she received extensive training under eminent Gurus such as Deepika Reddy, Anuradha Jonnalagadda, P.B. Krishna Bharathi, and the great maestro Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam for over ten years in Chennai, India. She further honed her skills under Mrs. Satyapriya Ramana, a senior disciple of Dr. Vempati. Dr. Kanoj holds a Doctorate in dance from the University of Hyderabad and is a graded artist from Doordarshan. Her career as a performer spans over 100 dance festivals both within India and internationally, including tours to Malaysia and Sri Lanka. She made her international debut at the Festival of India in Andaman and Nicobar islands in 1996. In 1998, she toured the USA with her guru, Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam, participating in significant Kuchipudi dance ballets like “Ardha Naareshwaram,” “Saakuntalam,” and “Srinivasa Kalyanam.” Other notable performances include the Siddhendra Jayanthi dance festival in the village of Kuchipudi in 2000. She is also known for her role as Ravan in the production "Navarasa Ramacharitam." Beyond performance, Dr. Kanoj is a dedicated researcher, specializing in dance sculptures of the Vijaynagar and Kakatiya dynasties. She has conducted extensive research on the connection between dance and sculptures, curated festivals, and filmed documentaries on dance sculptures in temples. She founded "Muvva Nritya Raaga Nigamam" in 2003 in India, an institution dedicated to promoting Indian Classical Dance, offering classes, training, and engaging in dance research. In 2004, she also established the "Nrityananda School of Kuchipudi" in the USA. Dr. Kanoj has conducted workshops on Indian Dance, Art, and Culture at various universities in the USA and participated in Rotary International's GSE program in Florida in 2010. Her commitment to social outreach includes using dance as a communication tool for hearing-impaired children and collaborating with organizations like the Kamineni Foundation.
