Iara Ananda Romano is a prominent Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and choreographer based in São Paulo, Brazil. She received her initial training in Indian classical dance in Brazil from her mother, Patricia Romano, who is recognized as a pioneer of Indian dance in the country. Iara further specialized her dance education in India. Her mother, Patricia Romano, was a disciple of the renowned Indian dance master Shrimathi Kalamandalam Sumathi, and Iara's own performances have featured choreography by Shrimathi Kalamandalam Sumathi. Iara Ananda Romano currently leads Natyalaya Brasileira, an academy of Indian classical dances, having taken over its direction from her mother in 2008. She is actively involved in teaching Bharatanatyam and other Indian classical forms, including Kuchipudi, and Bollywood Dance. Her career highlights include performing at the Immigration Museum in São Paulo at the invitation of the Consulate General of India in 2021, and being a dancer in the opening sequence of the popular Brazilian soap opera "Caminho das Índias." She has also taught Bharatanatyam at the Indian Cultural Centre São Paulo.
