Indu Vijay is a prominent Odissi dancer, teacher, and choreographer based in Singapore, dedicated to propagating this classical Indian dance form. Her journey in dance commenced at the age of six, with initial training under Smt. Sanjukta Das and Smt. SandhiyaDipa Kar. She further honed her skills at the esteemed Orissa Dance Academy, where she trained with Ramesh Chandra Jena and Madhusmita Mohanty, under the guidance of legendary gurus like Padma Shri Guru Gangadhar Pradhan and Padma Shri Guru Aruna Mohanty. In 2012, Indu Vijay founded the Taal School of Odissi in Singapore, where she serves as the Artistic Director. The school offers structured training in Odissi, fostering creativity and spontaneity among its students. Through Taal School of Odissi, she collaborates with institutions like Nrityalaya Aesthetics Society to provide classes, workshops, and lecture-demonstrations. Throughout her career, Indu Vijay has performed extensively both in India and internationally. Her notable performances include the 4th International Odissi Dance Festival in 2011, where she presented "Shiva Panchakam," the Mamallapuram Dance Festival, Pallavothsava in Mysore, GKRCC International Odissi Festival, and Guru Pankaj Utsav in India. In Singapore, she has graced stages at events such as Kalaa Utsavam 2021, Samanvaya at Bhaskareeyam 2019, People Get Connected 2021, and the Da:ns Festival at The Esplanade in 2020. She has also choreographed and presented productions like "Navarasa in Ramayana" (2012), "Gatha Odissi" (2015), "Parampara - Celebrating Traditions" (2017), and "Aham Brahmaasmi" (2022), the latter being Singapore's first full-fledged thematic Odissi production with a live orchestra. Indu Vijay is also actively involved in knowledge sharing, conducting lec-dems and workshops, and has been featured in interviews by outlets like Gnani Arts Singapore. Her commitment to the art form is evident in her continuous efforts to train students, with one of her disciples, Disha Rout, recently completing her Odissi Manch Pravesh under her tutelage.
