Ioanna Srinivasan is an internationally recognized Kathak dancer and choreographer, born and raised in Europe, whose work reflects her unique perspective on the classical North Indian dance form. She began her Kathak training as a child, initially studying the Lucknow style under Maya Rao of the Natya-Ballet-centre in Delhi. She further deepened her studies as a master student under the celebrated Pandit Vijai Shankar in Kolkata (Calcutta), India, and also under Padma Vibhushan Birju Maharaj in New Delhi. Srinivasan graduated with a Kathak Diploma from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, with distinction. Since 1986, Ioanna Srinivasan has been actively performing, choreographing, and teaching classical Kathak dance and experimental dance theatre. She performs as a soloist in classical Kathak and engages in avant-garde and fusion projects, collaborating with flamenco, modern, and contemporary dance, as well as dance theatre. Her extensive career has seen her tour across Europe, India, Malaysia, and the GUS States, performing at prestigious international festivals such as the Binda Din Kathak Festival in India, Theater der Welt in Germany, and the Lunalia Festival in Mechelen, Belgium. She has also presented Kathak in various radio and television programs. Critics have consistently praised her elegant stage presence, exceptional command over rhythm, and nuanced expression. She is considered one of the outstanding talents of her generation in India. In 1997, Ioanna Srinivasan founded the Academy of Kathak Dance in Berlin, Germany, where she teaches students of various ages. Two years later, in 1999, she established the Ioanna Srinivasan Dance Company. She conducts workshops globally, sharing her dedication to Kathak.
