🪔 About

Ishwari Deshpande is a dynamic and internationally acclaimed Kathak artist, recognized as one of the leading dancers of her generation. Born in Pune, India, in 1996, into a distinguished family of artists, her connection to classical dance and music was a natural calling. She is the daughter and disciple of renowned Kathak artist Guru Prerana Deshpande, and her father is the acclaimed Tabla virtuoso Pt Supreet Deshpande. Her artistic lineage extends to her grandfather, Pt Kiran Deshpande, a prolific Tabla artist and classical vocalist, and her great-grandfather, Pt S. B. Deshpande, a pioneer of Indian classical music and co-founder of the Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyalaya in Jabalpur. Ishwari began her Kathak training at the tender age of three and made her stage debut at four. She has received over 25 years of intensive training from her mother, Guru Prerana Deshpande, learning intricate compositions from her guru's lineage. She also holds a Masters in Performing Arts in Kathak from Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune. Beyond her dance education, Ishwari has a Master of Behavioural and Decision Sciences from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Economics from Fergusson College, Pune University. Her performances, which balance classical purity with subtle innovation, have garnered critical acclaim in India and internationally, including in the USA, Canada, and Southern and Eastern Africa. She is particularly admired for her clarity in nritta (pure dance), dynamic stage presence, and intelligent interpretations of traditional compositions. Ishwari is also a choreographer, creating interpretive works on various themes. She is directly affiliated with Nrityadham, a worldwide institute founded by her mother, Guru Prerana Deshpande, where she also conducts in-person classes. With over 15 years of teaching experience, she mentors new and advanced dancers, offering both in-person and online classes to students from India, the US, and the UK. Awards & Honours: Pt Vishnu Digambar Paluskar prize for Kathak (2006), First Prize of 'Best Young Dancer' (2008).
