She is a certified performer and instructor by the Government of Tamil Nadu and is also professionally trained in Nattuvangam. Jayakumar has been an instructor for over seven years, as of 2011/2012, indicating she began teaching around 2004-2005. She has performed extensively in both India and the USA, including appearances on popular Indian television channels. Janani Jayakumar is the founder and head of Narthana - School of Bharathanatyam, which offers classes in Fremont and Sunnyvale, California. The school emphasizes the Pandanallur style, known for its intricate footwork and elaborate Abhinaya, and also imparts rich Indian culture through theory sessions covering various technical aspects of Bharatanatyam.
